It's incredibly, incredibly easy to roll your eyes at a sitcom centered around the young life of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who in this show's fictional frame narrative is running for President of the United States. Yup.
And yet, Young Rock ultimately has its heart in the right place as it offers up both a travelogue through the annals of wrestling history and a dew-eyed tribute to Johnson's parents who helped get him where he is today.
Fleeting lithely between time periods while dispensing with cameos from a bevy of beloved superstars - best of all Matt Willig's fantastic take on Andre the Giant - Young Rock finds a neat balance between sweetness and fan service.
You can certainly look at the show through the cynical lens of Johnson actually acquainting viewers with the idea of him running for President one day, but taken on more earnest, wink-wink terms, it's a surprising hoot.
