10 Best TV Shows About Wrestling

3. Mongo Wrestling Alliance

Heels Starz
Adult Swim

Mongo Wrestling Alliance aired on Adult Swim back in 2011, and though it only lasted a single 10-episode season, it remains something of a cult fave among wrestling and animation fans today.

Produced by Metalocalypse co-creator Tommy Blacha, MWA revolves around a young up-and-coming wrestler, Rusty Kleberkuh, who wishes to avenge his betrayed grandfather and restore his family's name.

It's undeniably rough around the edges and the animation is shamelessly crude, but there's an anything-goes charm to the show's wildly over-the-top humour and nauseating violence. And with each episode clocking in at only around 11 minutes, it never manages to outstay its welcome.

On top of this there's the top-notch voice cast, including Pamela Adlon, Will Sasso, Billy West, and even a show-stealing Harry Dean Stanton.

It's certainly not for everyone, but as both an irreverent look at the wrestling industry and a surreal dark comedy where no idea is too weird, Mongo Wrestling Alliance is a sure hidden gem.
