10 Best Undercard WWE Matches In Royal Rumble History
6. Shawn Michaels vs Edge (2005)
It's almost strange to have someone like Shawn Michaels involved in anything about midcard matches, unless you're referring to the early-1990's, but here we are. In the years to come, this could and probably would have been able to main event just about any pay-per-view the company put on. As it is, we got a "generation VS generation" type of match, with proven star Michaels taking on rising star Edge, who wasn't quite yet a main event player. That means Edge was at one of the hungriest points in his career, participating in one of the biggest singles matches of his career to that point, and it showed. The match becomes a fun journey as you watch Edge battle to prove himself against one of pro wrestling's greatest performers. He wrestles aggressively, but intelligently. He has a chip on his shoulder, and Michaels works very hard to make him look great. There aren't many in wrestling history that could make their opponents look better than Michaels could when he was motivated, had his head on his shoulders, and actually saw something in you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDxSbezyU1U This is one of the matches that helped WWE fans, and perhaps WWE management, see that Edge could, in fact, carry his weight in big-time matches as a singles player.
