24 hours after WrestleMania XXVI, Shawn Michaels literally waved goodbye to his fans. At 'Mania, HBK had wrestled one of the greatest WWE matches ever against one of his most famous rivals. It would also turn out to be the last time fans would see Shawn Michaels work inside the ring, not only at WrestleMania but full stop.

Shawn made good on his promises never to wrestle again. Almost eight years on, he still hasn't, and that reluctance to give in to temptation adds weight to the story of 'Mania XXVI. Centred around Shawn's impending retirement, the emotion was palpable as people struggled to get their heads around kissing a legend goodbye.

On his final night as an active wrestler, Shawn Michaels did the right thing. For a guy who had often been lambasted as selfish throughout his career, Michaels took a clean loss to The Undertaker, said his piece the next night on Raw and then let WWE motor on without him.
