When Scott Hall strolled out through the live crowd to cut a promo on the May 27, 1996 edition of Nitro, the idea that anything could happen on the show was furthered. As cool as Hall's unadvertised appearance was, things only got more exciting when Kevin Nash dropped in on the June 10 episode.

Dubbed The Outsiders, Hall and Nash hinted that they were there to launch a hostile takeover of WCW. The insinuation was clear; the pair were sent by the WWF to destroy the competition. The loudest words went unspoken. WCW were careful not to refer to Razor Ramon, Diesel, Vince McMahon or even the WWF by name (subsequent legal interjection put paid to that).

Stating that the 'measuring stick' had changed in WCW, Nash threatened Bischoff whilst running down the likes of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage. When Bischoff then turned to the cameras and motioned for them to stop rolling, the program went off the air and fans were left wondering what would happen the next week.

This episodic format really helped Nitro. There's no doubt Nash upped the ante when joining Hall on the show.
