Relying heavily on already established names like Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Randy Savage and others, WCW didn't create too many main event stars throughout the 1990's. Sting would be one example, although he rose to prominence in the early part of the decade. Other than the Stinger, Bill Goldberg comes to mind instantly.

On September 22, 1997, Goldberg made his debut on Monday Nitro and defeated Hugh Morrus. A seemingly innocuous, throwaway match, this win kickstarted an undefeated streak that appeared to grow in legend with each passing week. There was no stopping Goldberg. WCW fans couldn't get enough of his ass-kicking ways.

In front of around 40,000 fans at the Georgia Dome on July 6, 1998, Goldberg faced Hollywood Hogan for the WCW World Title. Still unbeaten, he ran right through one of wrestling's biggest stars and won the belt. This was a landmark moment for the company.

Many argued that Eric Bischoff should have promoted the match on pay-per-view, which is understandable. Still, try and watch Goldberg's victory over Hogan without smiling. Putting the gold on Goldberg was the right move, Nitro or not.
