10 Best WCW Video Games

7. WCW SuperBrawl Wrestling

Featuring the politest referee in the history of wrestling videogames, WCW SuperBrawl Wrestling was released by the same developers - FCI - at around the same time as The Main Event. Coming out exclusively on the SNES, SuperBrawl was largely derided upon release, with most of that criticism coming because there aren't really a whole load of moves in the game. Thankfully, the overall presentation is awesome, and is actually pretty revolutionary with some of the things it tries to do, such as having little digitized sound bites. On the character select screen in particular, it's cool to see the wrestlers pop out of their little boxes, shouting a catchphrase or encouraging you to pick them, and this is something which WCW videogame developers would evolve and make use of for years to come. It's almost a shame that the gameplay doesn't match up with the presentation, as this could have been a truly special game if it did. Even so, there's much to enjoy here for long time fans, and the little dashes of commentary added by Tony Schiavone are nice. SuperBrawl Wrestling hasn't aged well, but it's not about that necessarily, there's a lot of nostalgia in here, and the excellent job the game does of bringing WCW's characters to life makes it worthwhile checking out.
