10 Best Worked Shoots In WWE History
7. Jim Ross Tells It Like It Is
While the craptacular notion of a fake Razor Ramon and phoney Diesel was doomed from the very moment it was pitched, the angle did have a drop of gold amongst the s**tstorm of awfulness. That one positive was the worked shoot cut by Jim Ross.
While the idea of a heel JR was admittedly a bad concept - due to the fact he was loved and respected by the fans - the speech he gave in 1996 is a standout as far as worked shoot promos go. Everything Ross said was right on the money and makes even more sense listening to it today with the benefit of hindsight.
During the promo, JR fired with both barrels, venting his frustrations with the company, his positioning in the announce booth and the WWF's decision to let him go after he suffered from Bell's Palsy. Ross even referenced Vince McMahon as the WWF owner - a rarely mentioned fact at the time.
JR would cut a similar disgruntled heel promo in 1999 after suffering another bout of Bell's Palsy. This time, the tirade was directed against WWF creative and Michael Cole respectively. Despite the heel intentions, the beloved JR was cheered for his candour once more and the WWF were forced to drop the angle shortly after.
