6. Steve Austin Says Goodbye
When Eric Bischoff's group of hired guns got the better of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin's team at Survivor Series 2003, the fans in attendance and around the world were devastated. As per the stipulation, the loss meant that Bischoff would gain full control of Raw and 'The Texas Rattlesnake' was gone from WWE TV for good.
After his fate was sealed, Austin returned to the ring for one last goodbye. With Survivor Series taking place in the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, the situation presented a full-circle moment for 'The Bionic Redneck', who started his career in Dallas, 14 years earlier with World Class.
Heartfelt and sincere, the face of the Attitude Era gave a profound speech to his home state crowd, essentially giving the fans the retirement speech he never had chance to make after WrestleMania XIX. As a result, it presented a side of 'Stone Cold' the fans rarely saw inside the ring. It was an emotional, bookend moment that genuinely seemed like the end of Steve Austin's tenure with WWE.
Nevertheless, Austin would return to WWE TV six weeks later on the 29 December edition of Raw. As Sheriff of Raw, 'Stone Cold' essentially continued exactly where he left off as co-GM right through to WrestleMania XX.
