10 Best (Worst) Wrestling Horror Matches
7. Buried Alive Match
Completing WWE's death trifecta is the Buried Alive match, a thematic successor to the Casket match. Both bouts involve putting an opponent somewhere that he doesn't want to be, then covering him up to bring an end to the match. In this case, though, there's a whole cemetery setup by the ring, including an open grave just hungering for a warm (cooling?) body.
In a sport where a lot of the time less is more, the Buried Alive stipulation often takes away from the quality of a bout. The stuff that starts out the match - in the ring - can be good, but as the bout progresses, it's just a lot of brawling in dirt while trying not to fall. It also takes a lot to put a guy down long enough to be buried, so usually other wrestlers or backhoes get involved. It's a big mess in more ways than one.
Still, if Undertaker ever wrestles again, maybe it should be in a Three Stages of Hell match - first a Casket match, then a Last Ride match, and finally a Buried Alive match. No? Okay, maybe not.
