10 Best WrestleMania Rematches That Ever Happened At Backlash
8. Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy (Backlash 2009)
The Hardyz had originally clashed one-on-one all the way back in 2001 as part of a brief issue which was quickly forgotten about, but it was in early 2009 that they had their real blood feud.
Matt had cost Jeff the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble and the brothers had fought in an Extreme Rules match at WrestleMania XXV. Although any match on a card featuring the first Undertaker-Shawn Michaels classic would look comparatively weak, the battle of the Hardyz did not feel like the epic it had promised to be.
They returned to the stipulation well at Backlash with an I Quit match. Jeff would defeat his brother after Matt quit to end the violence between the brothers. This ended the feud, with Jeff shortly going on to become the World Heavyweight Champion and the most popular wrestler in the company over the spring and summer.
This story-driven match was not quite what everyone was expecting from a Hardy vs. Hardy match, but featured enough craziness to not fully disappoint. The most engaging WrestleMania holdover at Backlash 2009 was the one-on-one match between Chris Jericho and Ricky Steamboat, a streamlined version of Jericho's 3-on-1 clash with legends earlier in the month. In comparison, the Hardyz fell flat.
