10 Best WrestleMania Rematches That Ever Happened At Backlash
6. The Undertaker vs. Batista (Backlash 2007)
The Undertaker had won his first Royal Rumble at the 2007 event, choosing Batista as his opponent for WrestleMania 23. Despite having a good story and featuring two of the biggest names on the roster, the pair were placed earlier on the card, with the Battle of the Billionaires featuring Donald Trump and the WWE Championship match between John Cena and Shawn Michaels taking higher billing. Slighted by this, the Undertaker and Batista had torn the house down, putting on one of the best matches of the night and one that far exceeded most people's expectations.
They returned to the ring at Backlash, this time in a Last Man Standing encounter and this time in the semi-main event position. A violent and fast-paced match, it was the perfect setting for the two huge, athletic superstars to beat each other senseless. Both men came into the match with injuries, and came out even worse for wear. Indeed, the Undertaker would shortly have to give up his World Heavyweight Championship to get surgery.
The Deadman and the Animal would clash several more times later in the year once the Undertaker returned from injury, always having incredible chemistry with one another. This Backlash rematch only fell short of the enjoyable original due to the inventive, logical but disappointing non-finish, in which Batista speared 'Taker off the stage, knocking both men out.
