Edge shocked the world when he returned at the 2020 Royal Rumble after nine years of retirement caused by serious neck issues. The following night, he was the victim of an attack by his former Rated-RKO partner Randy Orton, setting up a WrestleMania programme between the two.

That year's 'Mania is of course best remembered for being behind closed doors, denying Edge his triumphant return to the biggest show of the year in front of thousands of fans. Orton and Edge would as a result have a long, heavily-edited Last Man Standing match. The Rated-R Superstar would win that encounter, only for Orton to disavow the loss due to it not being a regular contest, instead challenging Edge to a straight wrestling match at Backlash.

Billed as 'The Greatest Wrestling Match Of All Time', the combatants wrestled for nearly 45 minutes, going through WWE history by unleashing the signature moves of their former opponents such as Kurt Angle, Triple H, Batista and The Rock. It was most certainly not the greatest match of all time, but it was better than their first bout, despite Edge suffering a bicep injury that kept him out until the following year's Royal Rumble.
