10 Best Wrestlers Of 2022 (So Far)

5. MJF

More than anything else, it speaks to the fast-moving nature of online discourse in 2022 that MJF almost feels like a forgotten man at this stage. The former Pinnacle leader's name feels like it has barely come up in the wake of his searing 1 June worked shoot promo on AEW chief Tony Khan, despite his cloudy contractual status, though prior levels of intrigue guarantee his re-entrance into the zeitgeist whenever that next moves come.

Pre-absence, MJF was the best television wrestler in the United States. That isn't to say he was the best wrestler outright, necessarily, but the one excelling the most in every aspect of his weekly performances. Promos, character work, crowd control, matches: MJF was more than fulfilling his promise in every department.

Output-wise, his 2022, thus far, has been two Feud of the Year contenders opposite CM Punk and Wardlow, whom he did a sterling job of elevating in the run-up to (and at) Double Or Nothing 2022. His and Punk's Dog Collar Match will finish highly on many a year-end list. Promo-wise, he is well on his way to becoming an all-timer, even if his worked shoot content splits opinion.

But despite all this, MJF's greatest attribute remains his ability to position himself as the centre of attention. That he's able to do this even in feuds where he is booked to lose means he will remain a valuable asset for whatever promotion is lucky enough to give him for decades to come.
