9. YOSHI-HASHI Vs. Kenny Omega - NJPW G1 Climax - 22/7/16

The New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Climax is strangely skewed this year, with the A Block full of superstar power and the B Block full of names that usually get bandied about as dark horses to win. To compound this surprise a little further, the opening round of B Block matches saw four relatively shocking results, as favourite after favourite lost to supposed lesser opponents.

The match quality all around on the second night wasn't as good as the first night (more on that to come), but every match had a lot of good going for it. YOSHI-HASHI's surprise win over Kenny Omega was the highlight for me, a smooth match that showed just how good Kenny Omega has been in 2016.

More so than that however, this was further evidence that YOSHI-HASHI has finally stepped up to the plate. He even busted out a new finisher here, called Karma, and the finishing stretch of TACOS having to hit a whole host of big moves to finish off The Cleaner was extremely well done.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
