3. New Generation Project
Unfairly maligned from a quality standpoint due to over-simplified quantitative theory, the WWF New Generation became the shorthand for sh*t wrestling when the Attitude Era blasted the organisation into the next decade.
For years, a period close to the hearts of many went largely untouched as a relatively short period was lionised as instantly iconic. To write that wrong, dedicated fan Stewart Brookes used the New Generation Project to talk friends and fans Paul Scrivens and Adam Wykes through the the company's commercial nadir.
Buttressed by exceptional of-the-time research and rewatching by Brookes to contextualise everything happening on every show, the podcast seamlessly blends a huge amount of information with an engaging level of post-script analysis. In-jokes develop as expected, with a number of performers developing second lives through the eyes of Scriven's earnest innocence (and incredible head for "wrestlemaths") and Adam's mullet-obsessed obstinance.
Rather fittingly, Stewart is the Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels-esque anchor for the chaos around him. There are few podcast presenters as informed; his quick-fire answers to the various questions and quibbles flung by the pair are answered thanks his extensive in-built knowledge and the research clearly conducted for each episode. Much like the product itself for those that lived the through the 1993-1998 dark age, it's clearly a labour of love.
