10 Best Wrestling Referees Ever

5. Mike Chioda

For whatever reason, having Mike Chioda so low on this list feels a bit wrong. After all, he's the longest serving referee on the WWE roster, having officiated his first match in 1989, before taking a break for a few years and returning in 1992.

He has taken charge of WrestleMania main events, and even won a match (teaming with The Rock and Chris Jericho to defeat The Dudley Boyz and Nick Patrick) on SmackDown in 2001.

Despite this, Chioda only sits 5th on my list. This is less about his own ability and personality and more about the four men that follow him hereafter. Chioda is solid, dependable and widely respected.

This is why he is the senior official in WWE, and why many of the biggest matches are put under his control.

That's about it, really.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
