10 Best Wrestling Stable Wars

8. D-Generation X Vs. The Nation

Part of the reasoning behind forming a wrestling stable is to protect young talent until they are ready to break out on their own. In D-Generation X, you had Triple H, who was underneath the tutelage of Shawn Michaels, and then was suddenly thrust into the role of leader when his friend was forced into an early retirement.

In The Nation, Rocky Maivia was cast as a follower of Farooq, but he quickly blew past him in popularity, and thus the pecking order of the group. He took over the reigns, and soon found his more serious stable at odds with the sophomoric DX.

It was The Rock, Mark Henry, D’Lo Brown, The Godfather and Owen Hart against HHH, X-Pac, Billy Gunn, Road Dogg and Chyna. A pretty even match-up with vastly different philosophies binding the groups together.

The two sides simply hated each other. DX began endlessly mocking their rivals, most famously in a sketch where they dressed up as the group in a parody. The high point of the entire feud in the ring may have been at SummerSlam 98, when Rock and Hunter fought in a great ladder match, shortly before both of them became big stars.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
