10 Best Wrestling Stables Of All Time

8. The Shield

When The Shield exploded into WWE at the 2012 Survivor Series, attacking Ryback and helping CM Punk retain the WWE Championship, they set a standard for dominance and destruction that would be hard to maintain. Still, over the course of the next year-and-a-half, the group did just that, running roughshod over main-event talent and capturing championships with ease.

The Shield's goals, to be fair, were always a little bit unclear. They initially claimed to be taking a stand against injustice, but were soon revealed to be in CM Punk's employ, proving they were just hypocritical heels. For the rest of their tenure, they'd occasionally pay lip-service to injustice, but they mostly seemed to be in it to break some heads.

Goals weren't really necessary, though - what really made The Shield work was their depiction. All three men were equals, with no leader and no weak link. The only thing that they seemed to value more than causing destruction was protecting one another, which far from making them endearing, actually gave them an ominous unity that transferred into a long unbeaten streak. Each man was used perfectly, too - Ambrose was the angry mouthpiece, Rollins the wild high-flyer, and Reigns the silent enforcer.

The formula of The Shield was a success that ensures that all three men will be linked throughout their WWE careers. It was an innovative recipe that will undoubtedly be imitated repeatedly in the years to come.
