Going in to WrestleMania 23, a number of people had some reservations about The Undertaker and Batista going one-on-one. The Animal wasn't really renowned for his in-ring capabilities, and it was becoming increasingly clear that Taker was better off facing a smaller opponent who would bump like crazy for him.

The duo proved everyone wrong at the big show, and put on an even better showcase one month later at Backlash 2007. This was a Last Man Standing match, which arguably suited the two big men more than their straight one-on-one match at Mania.

The brawling was amped up, and the intensity between the two behemoths was palpable to say the least. The LMS stipulation has hurt many a match in the past but not this one, as the two men brutalise each other for just over 20 minutes.

Batista eventually spears Taker off the stage for the visual spot of the night, and neither man are able to make the count. Usually such a finish will illicit groans from an audience, but not on this night.
