Backlash 2000 was a strange, strange show. It contained three of the best matches in Backlash history, all of which feature on this list, but it also featured Bull Buchanan & The Big Boss Man defeating The Acolytes and Big Show squashing Kurt Angle whilst dressed as 1980s Hulk Hogan. Don't google image search that by the way.

The middle of the tree greats was a genuine classic though, brought to use by the two greatest Canadian wrestlers ever to be called Chris. The Intercontinental Championship was on the line, and Jericho was hot in the company once again after the intial bungling of his arrival from WCW.

Benoit picked up the victory here but by disqualification, meaning Jericho kept the title. The finish hurts the match somewhat but only in the postscript, as the 15 minutes of wrestling before it are of the highest quality.

You want technical wrestling, high flying and some strong style all in the same match? Look no further.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
