Ric Flair, like Goldberg, returned to WWE in 2001 on what is widely considered to be the "wrong side" of 50. He was only two years removed from this milestone, but since his hair was completely white (as it had been since he was 12) he looked a lot older than anyone else on the roster.

As such, The Nature Boy (Nature Man, really) was installed initially as the company's co-owner, later taking the slightly more physically exerting role as Triple H's motivational coach, a position that sometimes involved him sliding a sledgehammer into the ring and poking opponents in the eye.

But he also pulled on the spandex every now and then himself, sharing great matches with Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton and, eventually, his own former protégé, before party pooper Vince McMahon announced in late-2007 that he would have to retire the next time he suffered defeat.

Given that the chairman's aim here was to bring the curtain down on Flair's career, it would have made much more sense to enter him in the Royal Rumble instead of making him fight Mr Kennedy and MVP - but then we wouldn't have got that incredible, tear-jerking moment at WrestleMania XXIV.
