When Paige arrived on the main roster in 2014, she set the bar for all future NXT call-ups to the main roster.
The British star cut off Divas Champion, AJ Lee, bringing the main roster's top women's champion face to face with NXT's biggest female star.
The then-NXT Women's Champion was challenge by AJ to a match for Lee's title. In one of the biggest shocks in WWE's recent history, the young star not only put on a great match with AJ, but she pinned her clean to become the youngest Divas Champion of all time.
Everything about this was executed perfectly. The shock of seeing an NXT star on the main roster. The calibre of opponent that Paige was paired with. The huge win that Paige was given on her first night. It did wonders for Paige and, even more importantly, wonders for NXT.
Fans now expected NXT stars to get the same treatment as Paige when they came up to the main roster. Whilst this hasn't always been the case, it made NXT feel like a big deal and put a whole new batch of eyes on the show.
