1. Johnny Gargano Vs. Tommaso Ciampa
Which only makes the achievements of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano on NXT even more sensational.
Their tale of splintered tag partners could have been a mechanical, run-of-the-mill break up story. It hasn't been though. No, it's been a deep dive exploration of multi-layered characters and laced with killer match after killer match. Even if you're no NXT hardcore, this is 2018's most essential WWE rivalry.
Since Ciampa turned on Gargano way back at TakeOver: Chicago in May 2017, they've been linked as enemies. That's been true even when they're not strictly feuding with one another; Gargano's entire character post-split has revolved around his struggles to both get over Tommaso's treachery and maintain his previously upbeat psyche.
An unsanctioned match at TakeOver: New Orleans before WrestleMania was stunning, and so was a 'Chicago Street Fight' in June at that city's second TakeOver special. The feud was temporarily shelved to explore other options following another classic, this time a 'Last Man Standing' whopper at TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.
