Sometimes the simplest gimmicks are what get the people going. Rusev personifies that principle to a tee. Is there a gimmick in the entertainment business more classic than the evil foreigner? They use it in movies, on TV shows, in books and of course in wrestling. Rusev is in the WWE along with his representative Lana, to compete on behalf of Russia. That on its own would be easy enough to respect, but competition isnt all Rusev and Lana are looking for. They are looking to crush and humiliate every American in the WWE, all the while running America into the dirt, in the name of Russia. It isnt simply about lifting Russia up, they intend to tear the rest of the world down, which makes them extremely despicable. If you need any indication of the hate that these two evil foreigners garner, consider the fact that anybody who has been booked in a program against Rusev has gotten enormous reactions from the crowd, including the once as reviled Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. Rusev and Lana have been stellar as the dominant, villainous, and contemptuous heel foreigners.
