8. The Andrade Cien Almas/Zelina Vega Double Act

Andrade "Cien" Almas was a rare NXT misfire; decked out in the unfashionable attire of circa-New Generation Jeff Jarrett, positioned as a babyface but performing with the irritating posturing of a superior heel, the presentation of the character was as confusing as his name was convoluted.

A victim of the seesawing company directive of identity restoration and identify theft, the pendulum swing towards the latter mood and all but smashed the former La Sombra into irrelevance with the awful power of a wrecking ball...

...until new manager Zelina Vega arrived by his side in the summer. The sizzling valet instantly perked the interest of the Full Sail set, and, with the unique novelty appeal of her lightning-quick female-on-male interference, allied with Almas' restored inner heel id, the double act very quickly rose to the NXT summit by capturing the top title in a decision that was at once sudden and sensible.

The role of Johnny Gargano cannot go underestimated. His brilliantly sympathetic work at TakeOver: Brooklyn III was crucial in establishing Almas as a force.

For years, WWE has contrived to make a Mexican star happen. At long last, they've found him.

Them.
