4. Triple H Vs Cactus Jack (No Way Out 2000, ****1/2)

The Triple H/Cactus Jack rivalry was another perfect storm in a series of them that swept WWE so far beyond WCW that the once-combative rivalry between the organisations instead resembled how 'The Game' would later treat most of the Monday Night Raw midcard.

Doubts had rightfully been cast over Hunter's suitability to lead the company as a Champion was still expected to do in 1999, but injuries to Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker had forced McMahon's hand to go all in on his future son-in-law alongside established headliners Mick Foley and The Rock.

'The Great One' had already done his best to elevate his former Corporate ally in the wake of his official babyface turn, but Foley's incredible generosity in their brutal feud marked a tonal shift for the 'Game' persona and Triple H's matches in general.

Managing to follow their incredible Royal Rumble WWE Title match, the No Way Out 2000 encounter had evocative stakes thanks to Foley's pledge to retire, but the lowering of the Cell over top only raised expectations thanks to mad Mick's infamous prior encounter within it (more in that later).

The two not only delivered a brawl on par with their January bloodbath, but also offered a unique conclusion that would have marked a fitting end to Cactus' career had the company actually enforced the stipulation.

Mirroring Foley's terrifying plunge through roof at King Of The Ring 1998, Triple H backdropped the challenger through a loose panel. Cactus plummeted yet again, but made a dent in the ring bigger than the one he'd left in every fan's heart after tearfully bidding farewell following the loss.
