10 Best WWE Matches Ever To Take Place In The UK
2. Shawn Michaels Vs. John Cena - Raw, April 23 2007
John Cena started hearing the 'You Can't Wrestle!' chants in late 2005 after a series of subpar and sloppy performances. Fans were starting to see through his act and resent him. Hell, WWE built up Cena's WrestleMania 22 programme with Triple H based on The Champ's in-ring shortcomings.
Cena, to his credit, routinely answered the critics with some truly first-rate showings throughout 2006 and into '07. But it felt like the Doctor of Thuganomics really turned a corner and began to turn sceptics into believers with his sterling April 23rd match with Shawn Michaels.
Because, dear reader, this was the night that John Cena stood toe-to-toe with HBK for almost a full hour. An hour of back-and-forth wrestling, drama and big moves. An hour of first-rate professional wrestling in front of an enthused crowd at Earls Court in London.
Really, what made this match so great is that it just came completely out of nowhere. Nobody expected a nearly 60-minute match between two top stars to headline a show taking place in the UK, especially not since they were only three weeks removed from their WrestleMania 23 main event.
Another surprise was The Showstopper picking up the clean victory after landing on his feet from an FU attempt and blasting Big Match John with a little Sweet Chin Music.
