10 Best WWE Matches Ever To Take Place In The UK
1. Bret Hart Vs. The British Bulldog - SummerSlam 1992
Really, could it have been anything else?
This match had it all: it was taking place in front of a massive, hot crowd (80,000), the action was smooth and exciting and it had the right result. Really, Davey Boy and The Hitman worked a five-star masterpiece in front of Wembley Stadium, and it's all the more impressive when you know the backstory to it.
See, Davey was in a really, really, bad way going into the biggest match of his and Bret's careers. He'd been out injured and instead of keeping his nose clean and rehabbing, he'd spent his days taking drugs and abusing his body. He showed up in London out-of-shape and not his usual self.
When he turned up to the stadium, he hadn't slept in 48 hours.
Bret knew he was up against it but he was determined to justify Vince McMahon's decision to put them on last, a decision Bret himself had lobbied in favour of. When Bulldog began blowing up and forgetting the match nary a minute into it, The Excellence of Execution had to guide him through it.
Yes, this was a total carry job, with Hart calling the action in the ring and motivating a tired Davey Boy to keep up, but credit must go to Bulldog, too. He might have been knackered, but those watching in the arena and at home couldn't tell. He was with Bret every step of the way, pulling fans ever closer in with every false finish.
Finally, after 25 minutes of action, Smith countered Hart's sunset flip and got the 1-2-3 and his first and only Intercontinental Championship. It was the peak of his WWE career and the best WWE match to have ever taken place on British soil.
