6. DIY Vs. The Revival (NXT TakeOver: Toronto)

Simply put, this is the greatest WWE tag team match in at least a decade. DIY and The Revival were perfect NXT rivals, and while their long feud produced a number of exceptional bouts, this contest’s story, heat, and execution sets it aside from the others.

Gargano and Ciampa entered with a huge point to prove. Their opponents had defeated them at TakeOver: Brooklyn II three months prior, but they gradually fought back to title contention, before meeting their greatest rivals in a 2 out of 3 Falls match in Toronto. The Revival went 1-0 after just five minutes, but DIY powered through, tying things up with their superkick/knee strike combo shortly after, leading to an incredibly dramatic final fall.

This was the match that cemented Gargano as the Ricky Morton of his generation. He played the face-in-peril spot to perfection, drawing the crowd in as The Revival worked over his knee, while his partner Ciampa willed DIY back into the match with trademark manic energy.

The conclusion was nothing short of brilliant. Both teams tried to finish the other with their own finishing moves, before DIY locked Dash and Dawson in dual submissions. The champions grabbed hands in the middle of the ring, desperate to avoid tapping out, but they couldn’t endure. They tapped, and DIY’s underdog story was complete.
