8. WWE Championship NO DQ Match: CM Punk Vs. Daniel Bryan - Money In The Bank 2012
The story going into this one was that Daniel Bryan was a heel that was going after CM Punk's WWE Title and he had an on again/off again relationship with AJ Lee. Punk was the babyface champion that AJ Lee clearly was interested in, but he played it cool. Funny how their story turned out huh? This was their third straight PPV working together with the match at the May 2012 Over The Limit event standing out as one of the best matches of that year. Since it was a No DQ match they were able to wrestle a different style than their previous ones. There was a lot of attention on Lee with storyline questions about what she might do. At one point she was bumped and left the ringside area. Later on, she brought a steel chair into the ring. They used all kinds of weapons to make things interesting. It was a match that was a combination of great wrestling by two of the best in-ring performers ever and a storyline that was really hot at the time although some people probably didn't like how much AJ received. By the end of it, after 28 minutes of intense action it was Punk that emerged victorious by driving Bryan through a table with a back suplex off the top rope. That finish worked because it was such an even match that it was smart to end it on a move that wasn't a finisher. It told a better story this way. This match took place a few weeks before Raw 1000, which is when CM Punk turned heel. Two years later, Bryan is injured after neck surgery and we don't know when he's coming back. Punk started dating AJ Lee about a year after this match, then Punk quit WWE and he married her. At least she's still wrestling. That's one out of three.
