10 Best WWE Matches That Ever Happened In July

7. Intercontinental Title: Shawn Michaels Vs. Marty Jannetty - Raw (July 19, 1993)

It's one of the best matches from the first year of Raw. There were several great matches between Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty in the spring of 1993. A lot of those incredible matches took place on Raw, including this one as Michaels defended the title against Jannetty. It's the same title that Jannetty took from Michaels on Raw two months earlier and Michaels was able to win back from him. People like to joke about Jannetty because his career as a singles wrestler wasn't that great, but his matches with Michaels were always very good due to their chemistry as the Rockers tag team. In this match there was also the presence of Diesel at ringside watching Shawn's back. The story in the match was awesome (as commentator Randy Savage pointed out) because they knew each other so well that they countered moves all the time. It looked like Jannetty had the match won, but Michaels got his foot on the rope and the match got re-started. There were also many outstanding nearfalls with Vince McMahon overreacting to them every time as his way of putting it over. Savage even commentated that he was losing his voice because it was so great. If you count the commercial breaks it was a 23 minute match, which was really long for a TV match in those days. You won't see too many TV matches going that long today either. That's because WWE had a lot of faith in these two being able to put on a fantastic match. Michaels ended up winning after Jannetty did a dive over the top, missed Michaels, so Diesel put him back in the ring and Michaels covered for the win. It was a cheap win, but it worked perfectly for a heel like Michaels.
