4. Intercontinental Title: Shawn Michaels Vs. Jeff Jarrett - In Your House 2
The mid-1990s weren't the greatest time in WWE although every once in a while we would get some incredible matches like this one at the "In Your House: Lumberjacks" event in Nashville, which was the second In Your House event and the first WWE PPV held in July. You might also remember the show for the Jeff Jarrett (and Roadie) performance of the song "With My Baby Tonight" that WWE loved to play all the time in those days. It was later revealed that it was The Roadie that sang it. Shawn Michaels was a rising babyface star that was gaining a lot of momentum after being a heel for the previous three years. Jeff Jarrett was the IC Champion that had a guy named The Roadie as his friend/manager. We would later come to know him as the "Road Dogg" Jesse James. They didn't have a big story going into it. It was really all about putting on a great match that would help Michaels continue his rise up the roster. They had a very competitive matchup in front of a really hot crowd that was supportive of everything that Michaels did. The nearfalls throughout made it really interesting. It looked like one of those classic IC Title matches we saw in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were two of the best in-ring performers in the company at the time, so it's no surprise that they were able to have a classic match. Following a ref bump, the Roadie attacked Michaels from behind. Jarrett nearly capitalized to win the match, but Michaels kept on fighting. When Jarrett was sent into the ropes, the Roadie turned his back to the ring and ended up tripping Jarrett. He thought it was Michaels. Oops. That led to Michaels nailing Jarrett with a Superkick and he ended up winning the IC Title after 20 minutes of incredible action. It's a shame that WWE didn't have Michaels wrestle Jarrett more often because they obviously had great chemistry. This was really the only great match that they had that people remember.
