10 Best WWE Money In The Bank PPV Matches (That Aren't MITB)
5. Kevin Owens Vs. John Cena - Money In The Bank 2015
John Cena and Kevin Owens’ match at the Elimination Chamber 2015 event was an undeniable banger - one of the best matches of that year - and it altered the status quo with the NXT Champion Owens pinning Cena completely clean. While this rematch has less mythos due to Cena's victory, it's just as good from an in-ring sense, and proof of their tremendous chemistry.
Cena/Owens II was built off of two principles: innovation and refining tradition. Owens busted out moves and counters we hadn't seen in WWE before, and Cena did totally new things that completely altered audiences' decade long perception of what a Cena match was supposed to look like. With the refining of tradition, every trademark move from both men was delivered and sold perfectly, with finishers like the Pop Up Powerbomb, or more basic stuff like Cena's two shouldered kickouts looking immaculate.
The narrative wasn't particularly dramatic, it was simply about who could survive the biggest moves and most inventive sequences. While those types of matches can be exhausting, Cena and Owens paced the action beautifully, making the escalation feel natural. Cena picking up the win felt right, Owens came across as a star taking Cena to his limits and it set up their final match beautifully.
