8. Undertaker... Dies? (Royal Rumble 1994)

Undertaker Buried Alive

It's pretty much common knowledge today that you can't kill The Undertaker, but back in the 1990s attempts on his life were fairly ubiquitous in WWE, with one of the most famous coming at the 1994 Royal Rumble.

Here, after The Deadman - thanks to some timely interferences - came up short in his Casket Match against Yokozuna, a group of dastardly heels pushed the coffin in which he lay strewn up the entrance ramp, presumably believing they had vanquished him for good.

But, just as it seemed 'Taker's reign of terror was over, he sent his assailants a message from beyond the grave, first via a smoke machine, and then by appearing briefly on the Titantron and vowing that he would return one day soon to exact his revenge.

With The Phenom subsequently taking time off to recover from injury, it would be months before we actually saw him back on our screens, but the genius of sending him away in this manner was that you couldn't quite afford to miss any intervening episodes of Raw. Unless you were closely following his rehab program, he really could have returned at literally any moment.
