10 Best WWE Pay-Per-View Cliffhangers

2. Who Ran Over Stone Cold? (Survivor Series 1999)

WWE brought us its most famous entry into the whodunit? series of cliffhangers at Survivor Series 1999, when Stone Cold Steve Austin was mowed down backstage by a car driven by a mystery figure.

Not only did fans have to watch Raw 24 hours later if they wanted some closure, they had to follow every second of the product with intense scrutiny for the next year; that's (almost) how long it took for the company to make the reveal.

And, like all great wrestling mystery angles, it wasn't worth the wait (like, even slightly). In the end, it emerged that Rikishi was the man behind the wheel, having decided that the best way to help his more famous cousin reach the promised land was to murder the competition.

The worst part about all of this is that it's still the gold standard for WWE reveals. It may not have been particularly clever or interesting, but at least it didn't involve Hornswoggle, as any and all subsequent storylines centred on an unidentified man did and will do until the end of time.
