10 Best WWE Pay-Per-View Intros

2. Invasion 2001

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55o8fY_6XYQ Most pro wrestling fans agree that the entire 'Invasion' storyline of 2001 should have been much better than it was. The then-WWF awkwardly pushed stars people regarded as WWF names onto the WCW side, such as Steve Austin. Nonetheless, the Invasion Pay-Per-View did monster business, and it was clear the wrestling world desperately wanted the angle to succeed. Proceedings were hampered badly by the convoluted family war between the McMahon family, but there was also a distinct lack of identifiable WCW headliners. Hindsight makes things easier, but imagine how much bigger the event could have been with just a few WCW names. Men like Sting, Goldberg and Ric Flair would have heightened the senses of wrestling enthusiasts, and the Invasion may have felt like a true war, rather than a superficial attempt from Vince McMahon to create his own. Regardless of how things panned out, the opening video for the Invasion show was superbly handled. Clips of war and various politicians discussing it were used, and they were chopped brilliantly with voiceovers from McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and even Paul Heyman. At least Invasion's intro package treated WCW/ECW like a genuine threat.
