10 Best WWE Pay-Per-Views Of The PG Era
3. Royal Rumble 2018
Royal Rumble 2018 was a historic event because it was the first-ever that it incorporated a women's edition of the match type into the show. The history-making moment for the women of WWE, combined with one of the best men's Royal Rumble matches of all time makes the 2018 instalment of the event one of the all-time greats.
The women's version of the Royal Rumble featured the return of legendary women's wrestlers such as Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly and Michelle McCool. WWE booked the match extremely well, so whilst the legendary women got the shine, the main focus was indeed on the women on the current roster. The match would be won by Asuka in a move that delighted the majority of the WWE fan base.
The men's match also delivered. It managed to feature several compelling moments that were built on continuity; which is a rarity in WWE's booking. Special appearances from a returning Rey Mysterio, NXT Champion Andrade Cien Almas and Adam Cole made it one of the most star-studded Rumble matches ever. The most notable spot in the match included a Ruthless Aggression Era v PG Era showdown, as John Cena, Randy Orton and Mysterio faced off with Finn Balor, Roman Reigns and eventual winner Shinsuke Nakamura.
The rest of the card whilst not anything special did feature matches such as AJ Styles defending the WWE Title against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Brock Lesnar would defend his Universal Title against Kane and Braun Strowman in a chaotic triple threat match that didn't exactly light the world on fire, but it wasn't designed to either.
