History has not been kind to the main event of WrestleMania X8. It truly didn't matter how good a match these two put on, they were fighting a losing battle from the get-go. In the eyes of the majority of the crowd they had already seen the main event (more on that later), and this was nothing more than Triple H flexing his political muscle to get top billing.

All of which is something of a disservice to Chris Jericho, arguably one of the greatest of all time, in what was his only WrestleMania main event. The match between Jericho and Triple H was excellent, two men close to the top of their games, albeit an excellent match that was overshadowed by what came before.

They were also hampered by the fact Triple H was playing babyface in peril against the third most important guy in a two-person feud, as Jericho had been treated as ineffectual in the build up. If you're judging the matches purely on what happened inside the ring, it was a damn good match, but that isn't how this works.

Triple H picked the victory because of course he did.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
