10 Best WWE PPV Matches That Ever Happened In September
9. The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels - (In Your House: Ground Zero 1997)
This match was the much anticipated first ever PPV match between two of WWE's top guys. At SummerSlam a month earlier, Michaels was the referee for the Undertaker's World Title loss against Bret Hart. He hit Undertaker with a massive chairshot that was intended for Hart and that's what led to this feud. Michaels was a full fledged heel again for the first time in over two years as Degeneration X began while Undertaker was humanized more than he ever was before. The story of the match was that Michaels was scared of Undertaker and tried using cheap tactics the entire time. The crowd was really buying into it as they brawled before the bell and the refs had trouble containing them. Every time Michaels tried to attack, Undertaker just kept on coming back. The only way Shawn got control was when he used a chair and the ref was bumped. There were lots of believable false finishes too. There's even a cool spot with Michaels using brass knuckles, then Undertaker stole them and used them himself. For the finish they went with Undertaker giving a Chokeslam to a ref and it ended as a No Contest. After the bell rang, other wrestlers came out to break things up. That set up a memorable ending as Undertaker did a huge no hands dive over the top rope onto about eight guys. It was one of the first times he ever did that spot. It's a match that is forgotten because of the Hell in a Cell match that followed it, but it's still awesome to watch. Plus, it made sense that they would do Hell in a Cell since this was such a wild brawl and in the cell they would be contained more.
