6. We Are Young - Fun Ft. Janelle Monae (Wrestlemania XXVIII)

When John Cena took on The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII it was the biggest clash of generations since Hogan and Rock met at WrestleMania X-8. A truly monumental encounter, the match drew in casual fans, mainstream media, and piqued the interest of the established fan base.

Such an occasion had become rare in WWE and they knew they had something special. Building the match over the course of an entire year resulted in a plethora of material and promos to help build anticipation to a fever pitch. Fans, regardless of their support, felt like they had to watch to see what would happen.

Even the most jaded fan couldn’t resist the urge to become invested. WWE had them in the palm of their hand. For one night, those fans felt like they did when they started watching wrestling. They felt young. Therein lays the beauty of this musical choice.

There are no crunching guitars, heavy bass or crashing cymbals here, only the whimsical piano played over a rolling beat making the song seem appropriately reflective in nature.

As the song played over the emotive video packages, all the pieces seem to fall in place prompting the question, if fans can’t feel young when WrestleMania rolls around, when can they?
