10 Best WWE Promos Of 2018

6. Samoa Joe's 'Night Night' Line (SmackDown - 21 August)

"Oooooooooh Weeeeeeeeendyyyyyyyyyyyyy".

This wasn't the longest speech Samoa Joe cut over the summer months, and it didn't need to be. Brevity can be a useful tool in promos, and it can make them 10 times more effective if the wording that is used hits the right notes. Joe, to his credit, has become a master of eloquently making his point in just a sentence or two.

After ambushing AJ Styles and interrupting the then-WWE Champ's own talking time on the 21 August SmackDown, Joe demanded that the camera come in close, grabbed his foe and then sent the ultimate message to his family watching at home. This was an example of old-school bad-assery to be proud of.

The parting shot of, "Daddy's already gone night night" was sinister enough to provoke a reaction from the live crowd, and the closeness of the camera work added a suffocating tenseness to the incident. Everything, from AJ on the little raised stage, to the attack and personal promo, felt like something from yesteryear.
