10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Commercials Ever

5. 2006

'You screwed Breticus!' the crowd chanted at Vince Caesar, the power-mad ruler of what I can only assume was the WWE Universe. Vince needed to do something to appease the throngs in front of him, but luckily for him his family has some ideas. The salvation that the Caesar needed was the Royal Rumblus, a 30-man battle for supremacy, and to the victor goes the spoils. Who knows what that means, but Stephanie says it in a way that makes winning the Rumble something most men would desperately like to do.

The 2006 Royal Rumble commercial builds on the historical silliness of three years earlier, as the McMahon Family dons Roman-era garb to further ram home their ruling status over the WWE world. In truth, the McMahons look completely at home in such a setting, although that could come from decades of watching a wrestling world where they have ruled with an iron fist.

Of course, the silliness runs all the way to the end of the advert, as Shane (or Shanicus) stabs Vince in the back before commencing his very silly dance, which looks all the sillier in this commercial. A strange minute or so of film, to say the least.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
