10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Commercials Ever

4. 2001

Make no mistake about it, this is a strange minute of film. It begins in the proud farmland of what may once again be Nebraska, and a strange Wyatt-esque voice whispering 'if you build it, they will come'. It turns out that what is being built is a wrestling ring, and before you know it the rumblings of enthusiastic competitors begin to take over. A mass of bodies hit the ring, but all isn't quite what it seems.

You see, this Rumble turns out to be a battle between old-timey yokels and midgets, complete with high-pitched vocals and shots to the nuts. It is immensely weird, and whilst it may not tell me too much about the Royal Rumble itself, it sure as heck pricks the curiosity of what would be WWE's audience at that time.

Undoubtedly the weirdest commercial the company has ever produced.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
