10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Commercials Ever

3. 2008

Without doubt one of the most iconic Royal Rumble commercials ever, the 2008 edition saw the superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment take their battles to the New York subway, as Batista, Umaga, Finlay, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy and more invaded a metro train to fight, much to the chagrin and terror of the other passengers on the train.

It is a fairly silly advert of course, but it gets across the chaotic nature of the Royal Rumble match better than most. It also gives the superstars a true larger than life feeling, of superheroes and villains duking it out as meek humans watch on. The poster for the event followed the same theme, giving a great overall feeling to the Madison Square Garden show.

It also acts as a fine reminder of how much better the 2008 roster was than many remember. You had your big stars in the shape of Batista, Cena, Triple H and others, but the undercard was full of guys like Umaga, Mr. Kennedy, MVP, Carlito and Shelton Benjamin. 2008 WWE had a little bit for everyone, and whilst it didn't always lead to great TV it most probably should have.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
