10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Final Fours
4. 2006 (Triple H, Rob Van Dam, Randy Orton & Rey Mysterio)
The 2006 Rumble match was rather
tricky, especially on a rewatch.
Boasting a roster that was hardly transcendent outside of the upper echelon meant that much of the match relied on lower-tier talent to keep the action compelling, until crunch time began. This makes it less surprising that WWE booked this Rumble in the show’s mid-card, instead main eventing with a Mark Henry match.
However, the final four sequence featuring Mysterio and The Game - who had both started the match as the first two entrants - as well as Randy Orton and Rob Van Dam had no such issues. Each ushering into their own corner, a timeless Rumble spot allowing the final four drama to simmer before exploding, the quartet brought the house down with a fantastic finish to an average Rumble up to that point.
Mysterio and RVD teamed up to try and take down the Evolution members, before Rey inadvertently eliminated Rob. With the crowd firmly behind Mysterio in his dedication to win in honour of his fallen friend Eddie Guerrero, Rey went into overdrive. The 619 enthusiast finally got the job done, eliminating both rivals in heart-stopping fashion, after a record 62 minute-long run.
It was textbook stuff from the final four, but the perfect execution led it to easily the most emotional victory in Rumble history.
