2. September 26, 2002 - Smackdown Six
WWE.comThe September 26, 2002 episode of SmackDown was the first real indication fans had of just how special the SmackDown Six era would be. With outstanding matches and compelling stories, the show set the table perfectly for the next three months of Paul Heyman-scripted television. Rey Mysterio wrestled a brilliant match, defeating Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat match to cap off the night's festivities. The bout, pay-per-view worthy in its quality and put more attention on the feud between Benoit and Angle, which would ultimately lead to them becoming tag team partners. One of the best matches of 2002 unfolded earlier in the night when Edge and Eddie Guerrero's rivalry culminated in a No Disqualification match. The competitors integrated chairs and a ladder into the match and it was on said ladder that the finish would unfold. Edge grabbed hold of Guerrero and delivered a big impaler DDT off the rungs, crashing to the mat below. Three seconds later, Edge was declared the winner and the two competitors basked in the adulation of the appreciative fans. Guerrero, in particular, received a standing ovation for his contributions to the match. Brock Lesnar intensified his rivalry with The Undertaker, busting the Deadman open with a WWE Championship just moments after the Phenom's win over Matt Hardy. The assault would only add fuel to the proverbial fire, leading to a monumental Hell in a Cell match between the two weeks later at the No Mercy pay-per-view. While that may have been the headline angle, the marquee feud of the SmackDown brand at that point, it was overshadowed by the hard-working individuals elsewhere on the card. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPasZ90HRog
