10 Best WWE Survivor Series’ EVER - According To Dave Meltzer

5. Survivor Series 1987 (3.15)

Like a lot of Vince McMahon's 1980s innovations, the Survivor Series started life as a bullish business manoeuvre. Founding the show to force pay-per-view companies to pick between his product and Starrcade after the phenomenal success of WrestleMania 3, the brash Chairman continued his relentless march across the North American landscape with a jam-packed supercard.

WWE's roster at the time was stuffed enough to run between two and six (six!) shows a day at the time, with the occasional pay-per-views providing a rare coming together of Superstars that barely even occurred on the telecast of the same name. Added to the company's state-of-the-art production, and it's easy to see how the company's in question largely caved to McMahon's demands.

Keen to impress on another grand stage, the diverse roster put on a sensational show. Between the ropes, the Hogan/Andre-centric main event and an epic ten-on-ten tag team elimination match are both amongst Dave Meltzer's ten best Survivor Series matches ever, maintaining the quality bar high now for 30 years.

The first two Survivor Series matches ever aren't without their charms either. Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat and others teeing off on the despicable Honky Tonk Man add pace and punch to a tremendous opener, whilst a women's bout showcases The Jumping Bomb Angels as (at the time) far and away the most exciting act to every grace the North American female scene.
