10 Best WWE Survivor Series’ EVER - According To Dave Meltzer

3. Survivor Series 2001 (3.49)

WWE had largely bungled what should have been the safest money-maker in industry history as November 2001 rolled around, with Vince McMahon keen to fatally kick the sh*t out of an already-dead horse one more time at that year's Survivor Series.

Looming over the show was the prospect of either WWE or The WCW/ECW Alliance 'going out of business' forever, and though mostly storyline, it's safe to assume several performers were working to prove their worth in the brave new post-invasion world.

Bursting with megastars, drama and scintillating sequences, the main event is Dave Meltzer's favourite ever elimination match, but there are some choice cuts beyond the five-on-five that are worth a context-free re-watch away from the toxic d*ck-waving WWE committed to at the time.

Boyz Dudley and Hardy had yet another thriller to add to their collection, working a steel cage match for both sets of tag titles, whilst a Women's six-pack match anointed Trish Stratus as the new leader of a division with better days ahead.

Unifying the United States and Intercontinental Titles at the time, Edge and Test have the type of match that again expressed how there was probably room for at least three long-haired Canadians at the time. The former Corporation member won an intriguing 'Immunity Battle Royal' later in the show that ensured his job security for a full year. Sadly, the angle went positively nowhere, and looked at one point a genuine reason why WWE couldn't get around to letting him go.
