The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers were the first tag team that I remember legitimately hating. Raymond and Jacques Rougeau were obnoxious, irritating and highly annoying, taking whatever shortcuts necessary to get wins over The Bushwackers, The Rockers and others. Good lord I despised those cheating Quebecois.

Looking back, they were actually pretty great at what they were doing. They entered the company as babyfaces but crowds quickly turned against them, leading to their slow heel turn and a wonderfully disingenuous gimmick. Jimmy Hart became their manager, they waved comically small American flags and were generally pricks about everything.

The Rougeaus actually did win the tag championships, but the win and reign are not recognised by World Wrestling Entertainment today. They defeated The Hart Foundation in August 1987 at a house show and were even announced as the new champions, but the decision was reversed and subsequently deleted from the history books.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
